Hello and wecome to my personal website! As the title states, my name is Dr. Casey J. Hayes and I am a PhD in Music Education from New York University's Steinhardt School of Education. In addition to my studies at NYU, I am also the Chair of the Creative Arts Department at The Hewitt School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I am also the Artistic Director of the Gay Men's Chorus of Manhattan, a semi-professional ensemble of gay men who sing to raise money for worthy causes throughout our community. Additionally, I am a former conductor of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus as well as their chamber choir THE AMBASSADORS, an ensemble that was dedicated to educational outreach within all realms of society, and the inspiration for my current incarnation of the GMCM.

I live in the Inwood section of Manhattan with my partner, Joe Morris, and our dog, Mr. Buckles, who joined our family upon the passing of our beloved Meisha. Our co-op is on a lovely tree-lined street surrounded by both Inwood Hill Park and Isham Park, creating a lush, green oasis in the concrete jungle that is Manhattan. The Spuyten Duyvil Waterway, which connects the Hudson River and the Harlem River, surrounds this area at the tip of island, making life here in "Upstate Manhattan" even more wonderful.

Rest in Peace, Meisha. Sept. 21, 1996 - Aug. 8, 2006

Welcome Mr. Buckles!

My research focuses upon the Educational Outreach of Gay/Lesbian/Bi-Sexual/Trans-Gendered Choruses. I truly believe that GLBT Choruses are the best tool that our community has to "reach out" and educate society about ALL issues facing the greater GLBT community. GLBT Choruses truly have the opportunity to "Build Bridges Through Song". As a former member of the Board of Directors of the international Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA Choruses), it is my responsibility and my passion to aid in the elimination of intolerance, bigotry, defamation and hate through music.

Personally, I was raised in a family with an amazingly musical history. My Great-Grandfather, Martin J. Cain and his wife, Grace Jameson Cain, owned and operated the historic Alhambra Theater in Indianapolis, Indiana at the turn of the twentieth century until it was demolished in 1928. My Grandmother, Gertrude Hayes, was the in-house pianist for the silent movies and vaudeville shows that would pass through the theater. My father, Michael J. Hayes, aside from being an outstanding Bagpiper, was raised as a child to be a dance performer (...didn't stick, though!). So, here I am, part of a very rich and varied family history of which I am enormously proud!

I spent a great deal of time learning various technology applications. I have documented my projects on a series of pages dedicated to each specific task. I did this as much for me to remember as I did for others to learn from. Click on the link below to check out these projects.
